Roller shutter, types, advantages, and disadvantages ?
Roller shutters are increasingly in demand, whether for renovations or new constructions. There are several types of roller shutters on the market. :
Types of roller shutters
The manual roller shutter :
This type operates with a crank handle. Although it is less convenient compared to automatic shutters, it is the cheapest and simplest in terms of installation.
The electric roller shutter :
This type is the most demanded on the market. It has a motor with a remote control, and it can also be operated by an individual switch or a home automation system, allowing remote control of the entire system.
The solar roller shutter :
It is the most expensive model, it is linked to solar panels, equipped with a battery, and is not connected to the electrical grid.
Advantages of roller shutters:
- Better thermal and acoustic insulation : Thanks to the structure with contiguous slats, roller shutters provide better thermal and acoustic insulation.
- Custom installation : Roller shutters adapt to all windows and dimensions, unlike hinged shutters.
- The aesthetic aspect :Roller shutters have a modern and sophisticated appearance. They perfectly harmonize with contemporary architectural styles.
- Privacy and darkness :Once closed, the roller shutter provides total darkness and complete privacy. It ensures that you are not seen and that you are completely in the dark at any time of the day.
- Security :Roller shutters provide additional security compared to hinged shutters because they are more difficult to force.
- Convenience and comfort : It adapts to the majority of projects; you can manipulate them from the inside without needing to open the windows. A very convenient system, especially when the weather is bad.
Disadvantages of roller shutters:
- Opening blockage may occur. :Some electric models may malfunction with large-sized openings and thus get stuck from time to time, leaving you in total darkness or preventing you from closing them. Similarly, although electric roller shutters are more convenient and simple, in the event of a power outage, you can no longer manipulate them, especially if you do not have a complementary manual system.
- Loss of brightness :For some, sleeping in total darkness is a pleasure, while for others, waking up without knowing if it’s night or day can be a bit inconvenient.
- Not always accepted :Some urban planning regulations prohibit the installation of roller shutters due to their modern style, specifically in municipalities with a typical charm or for houses near monuments or historic sites. It is preferable to inquire with the municipality before embarking on such a project.
